Edwards recently spoke to the Adobe MAX conference about his work with onscreen colour management for web, iOS, OS X and Android developers. The parameters shown by the iStat Pro can be personalized. It is currently in beta with Skala Color, a free plug-in for the OS X Color Picker available to designers and developers. Edwards and his team have been working on it for more than a year. With the Notification Centre visible you see Stat mini at the top of the panel showing three circular icons monitoring the Mac's CPU, memory and disk usage.ījango is also working on Skala, a sophisticated box of tools for software designers and developers. It's a boiled down, simplified version and it sits, not in the toolbar, but in the Notification Centre, reached by clicking the little three-bar icon on the far right of the toolbar.

The full version of iStat Menus is probably beyond the needs of the average domestic Mac user, so, concurrently with the release of Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite on October 16 this year, Bjango launched iStat Menus mini.

As a bonus I get, also in a dropdown panel, the date and time, locally and in four nominated cities, plus the phases of the moon, handy if you need to know when to go out and have a good howl. All the information is available from dropdown panels at a click on the relevant toolbar icon. It shows me what level of pressure the computer's processor is under, how much battery life I have left in my wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad, how much memory I have left, what disks are connected and their status, plus the status and population of my network.

Over that time it has been considerably refined and its scope increased. I have had iStat Menus, now up to version 5.03, working in the toolbar of my various Macs and iMacs for most of the seven years it has been available. A few users objected but Edwards replied that apart from the cost in terms of time, talent and effort expended in producing updates, Bjango had to buy at least one of every new Macintosh model produced, just to be sure the application always worked as it should. He is adamant that if a product can't be kept up with the latest operating systems, it has to be sidelined for a time.īeing free for several years meant iStat Menus built a huge global user base, but Edwards and his team decided that maintaining the application's relevance and standards, and keeping up with the constant flow of new Macs, meant payment had to be requested. For the moment, Edwards says, these several apps have been withdrawn from the App Store because Bjango is busy on other things and hasn't the time to keep them up to date. Included among the downloads have been iStat Menus and a variety of iOS apps such as Consume, Cities and Darkness. Bjango, then called iSlayer, started by building Dashboard widgets.
